Ghana Friends
Mr. Taylor's class have been exchanging letters with a school in Ghana called
Jachie Anglican primary school. Ghana is a country in West Africa and it's
capital is Accra. The school we are connected to is in the Ashanti region in
Ghana and it is a third world country.
The school does not provide tables and chairs. The parents
have to provide them and if they can't afford to the children will have to squat
on the muddy floor. The parents also have the responsibility of providing
pencils and paper and if they can't afford the children are forced to share with
their friends.
We took part in the international walk to school week (click
here) which the children in Jachie Anglican school also took part
in.
There is only one class room for the whole junior department and there are no
doors or glass in the windows. There is only one toilet for the whole school and
no clean drinking water.
They began by writing the first letters of the exchange. We
wrote back soon after and are now waiting for a reply.
