Drum Session
On the 14th
of March two bongo experts came to the
school.
Each class in turn got called into the music room and were taught the basics how
to play various drums. When our class was called in we all grabbed a bongo or a maraca
and listened to the visitors explain about percussion. The bongos on the
floor were shaped like big egg-timers but covered in fur.
The first beat we learnt was called a bass. You did it by banging the middle of the bongo with your palm. The second note we learnt was called a tone. You did this one by tapping with the tip of your fingers on the end of the bongo. The third one we learnt was called the slap. This was when you still had the tips of your fingers on the bongo, but slapped the bongo very hard.
After
learning the basics we put them all together and made a very good tune. We all
enjoyed it very much.
Especially when the teachers played it was obvious who the experts were!!! I
loved my bongo lesson very much and I would like to thank the school for giving
us a chance to play different instruments. I am left with another brilliant
memory of Ysgol Deganwy.
