Deganwy + area

In Deganwy there is a hill which has two summits.  Its name is the Vardre, and Ysgol Deganwy is built at the foot of it. Here is a photograph of the top of the hill.

About 750 years ago an English King built a castle surrounding both the peaks. Soon afterwards he retreated and the Welsh Prince Llewelyn took over the castle. Years later another English King invaded, and not wishing to let the English take advantage of the castle, Prince Llewelyn pulled it down, leaving very few parts of the castle standing. Now there are only a few pieces of foundation and various bits of stonework left on the hillside.

A local historian, Diane Bannerman has recreated a picture of how the Vardre would have looked if the castle had not been pulled down. Here is the picture.

This is a photo of how Deganwy would look from the Conwy side of the Estuary if the castle was still standing.
