The old school in Deganwy was built in 1822 and is 178 years old. It was built by Lady Frances Mostyn, who belonged to the Mostyn family who still own much of Llandudno and area. It was called the Charity School and was built for children who could not afford an education.
The Headmaster was paid £30 per annum and the mistress was paid £10 and also lived in the cottage at the end of the school. The children were taught English, Welsh and writing. The girls were also taught plain work and knitting.
The school received £10 a year to pay for books, firing (fuel for the fire

which the master sat nearest to) and other materials such as for plain work (sewing, knitting and embroidery etc.).
Children started school at the age of six, and left at the age of twelve, but they could return at the weekends to keep up their schooling and go to church on the Sunday where the master was responsible for seeing they were well-behaved.
Nowadays the school is used for meetings and voting.
