Snowdonia is a national park. It is a beautiful area of mountains and valleys. The boundary of the national park is about 2 miles from our school and we get a good view of some of the mountains from our classrooms. People come from all over the world to visit Snowdonia.
The area is good for walking and climbing and I've done a lot of
walking. I often go with my family on Sundays. We start a lot of our
walks from Betws-y-Coed, which is a pretty village in the middle of
Snowdonia. We often walk up to a beautiful lake with a lovely view which
is called Llyn Elsi.
The first big mountain I climbed was Moel Siabod. I was only about 7 and I went with my dad and older brother. We went the exciting way up and had to scramble up a lot of rocks by the side of a quarry.
The highest mountain in the national park is called Snowdon and I've been up a couple of times. Once we went up at mid-night in order to see the sunrise from the top. We had torches but we still got lost on the side of the cliff in the dark. We finally got to the top at about four o'clock and we didn't see the sunrise because of the mist. It was very cold and we wanted to go in the cafe to get warm but although it was open for a special event they wouldn't let us in.
